SUNRISE CELEBRATION 2009
The award winning Sunrise Celebration festival is back for its fourth year on a luscious the new, organic, site in South Somerset from 28th-31st May 2009. The event will have a limited capacity due to moving site so people are encouraged to buy their tickets in advance.
“We are thrilled to be holding Sunrise on the new site as it is organic and hence very much in accordance with our principles, as we have a site wide organic food and drink policy.” Says Director Daniel Hurring. “It is great to be staying in South Somerset as we have built up lots of great relationships with people and the authorities in this district and enjoy working with South Somerset Council.”
Sunrise is renowned for being one of the greenest and most exuberantly creative festivals on the scene. Living up to the festivals shining reputation for showcasing the best in eco, underground and emergent culture. There will be 6 stages, cutting edge info presented in talks and forums, workshops on crafts, alternative technology and earth energies, Circus and walk about performance, dance, art installations and the usual family vibe all powered on 100% renewable energy.
There will be a Tibetan Monastery on site, with a Tsam dance performed By Lama Rinpoche and Tibetan Monks, it is a special religious dance which is illegal to perform in Tibet. A live Fire walk will take place, and attendees may take part if they register in advance through the website. Live Graffiti Displays from some of the foremost street artists will take place and an Ethical Fashion show, with clothes modeled by the Mean Feet dance troop. There will be a Sun Worshippers Planetarium in association with the Royal Astrological Association, for star gazing and workshops, a traditional Native American medicine wheel and Tipi Circle and lots more, see the website for details.
This year Sunday at the festival will be dedicated to the Transition movement, with a plethora of talks on workshops on community resilience and going local. Speakers include Shaun Chamberlain author of “Transition Timeline”, Jeremy Leggett of Solar Century and Nick Rosen Author of “Off Grid Living”. With talks from astrologer Jonathan Cainer, Greg Samms and many more on subjects ranging from entheogens, archeo-astrology and earth mysteries, in the Ancient Futures and Avalon Rising spaces.
There will be eclectic musical vibes traversing; electronica, world beats, gadjo frenzies, front-line folk, reggae, dub, dub step, from lots of popular names and festival favourites along side rising stars. Headliners are still being confirmed, but will include London hipsters the Dubpistols sound system feat Rodney P, and Baka Beyond, the original afro celt cross-over band, The Bays, 3 Daft Monkeys, and folk diva Martha Tilston.
As a result of the limited size on the new site Sunrise encourages people to buy their tickets in advance. The festival will have all the usual facilities, including luxury camping option, hot tubs, showers and saunas and a festival within a festival for kids. There is a site wide organic food and drink policy, including Alcohol, and Sunrise brews its own organic Ale, Ra!, at the local Milk St. Brewery. The Meat and Dairy on site will be provided by Gilcombe Farm, Somerset Organics, Where the event is held. Tickets are available now through the sunrise website and Bristol Ticket Shop.
